MJM Groundworks
- To provide adequate control of the health and safety risks arising from our work activities.
- To consult with our employees on matters affecting their health and safety.
- To provide and maintain safe plant equipment .
- To ensure safe handling and use of the substances.
- To provide information , instructions and supervision for employees.
- To ensure all employees are competent to do their tasks, and to give them adequate training.
- To prevent accidents and cases of work-related ill health.
- To maintain systems to promote continuous improvement in terms of H&S improvement.
Responsibilities:
- Overall and final responsibility for health and safety is that of Mr Mick Mummery.
- Day-to-day responsibility for ensuring this policy it put into practice is delegated to Mick Mummery.
- To ensure health and safety standard are maintained/improved, the following people have responsibility in the following areas:

All employees have too:
- Co-operate with supervisors and managers on health and safety.
- Not interfere with any ting provided to safeguard their health and safety.
- Take reasonable care of their own health and safety.
- Report all health and safety concerns to an appropriate person (as detailed in this policy statement.
Health and safety risks arising from our work activities:
Risk assessments will be undertaken and issued by the principal contractor or carried out by competent member of our staff i.e. site supervisor. The findings of the risk assessment will be reported to the directors of the company (MJM GROUNDWORKS), relevant personnel and fill in the H&S Management responsible for ensuring the action required to remove/control risks. This will then be approved by the relevant site manager who will be responsible for ensuring the action required is implemented. The company directors will check that the implemented actions have removed/reduced the risks. Assessments will be reviewed every week of when the work activity changed, whichever is sooner.
Consultation with employees:
- Employees representative(s) are TBA
- Consultation with employees is provided by monthly H&S updates sent as part of the wage packets, weekly site - bases tool box talks, monthly H&S management meetings with clients (as a minimum), all relevant information cascaded down via site meetings or wage packet distribution.
Safe plant and equipment:
The directors will be responsible for identifying all equipment/plant needing maintenance and will be responsible for ensuring effective maintenance producers are drawn up. Directors will be responsible for ensuring that all identified maintenance is implemented.
Any problems found with plant/equipment should be reported to the relevant site supervisor/manager. the directors will appoint a suitably competent person to cheek that new plant and equipment meets health and safety standards before it is purchased.
Safe handling and use of substances:
- The directorss (with consulting from competent outside assistance) will be responsible for identifying all substances which need a COSHH assessment & for carrying assessment out.
- The directors (with consultation from competent outside assistance) will be responsible for ensuring that all actions identified in the assessment are implemented.
- The directors (with consultation from competent outside assistance) will be responsible for ensuring that all relevant employees are informed about the COSHH assessment.
- The directors (with consultation from competent outside assistance) will check that new substance scan be used safely before they are purchased.
- Assessments will be reviewed every 6 months of when the work activity changes, whichever is sooner.
Information, Instruction and Supervision:
- The Health and Safety Law poster is displayed at the head office and principal contractor's premises.
- Health and Safety advice is available from the directors (who have employed competent assistance).
- Supervision of young workers/trainees will be arranged/undertaken/monitored by the directors of other employers are given relevant health and safety information. It is normal operative procedure for MJM GROUNDWORKS operations to take place under the control of principal contractors H&S management systems.
Competency for tasks and training:
- Induction training will be provided for all employees by the principal contractor.
- Job-specific training will be provided by suitable reigning organisation.
- Training will be identified, arranged and monitored by the directors.
Accidents, first aid and work-related ill health:
- Health surveillance currently not required for any of our activities.
- When required, health surveillance will be arranged by our health surveillance suppliers.
- Health surveillance records will be kept by/at the directors in a secure location at the company trading address.
- The first-aid box(es) are kept in our work vehicles.
- The appointed person(s)/first-aider(s) are the team leaders.
- All accidents and cases of work- related ill health are to be recorded in the accident book. The book is kept by/at the directors of the company trading address.
- The directors are responsible for reporting accidents, diseases and dangerous occurrences to the enforcing authority.
Monitoring:
- To check our conditions, and ensure our safe working practices are being followed, we will carry our random site inspections and audits. We will also be given feed back by our principal contractors.
- The directors (with consultation from competent outside assistance) are responsible for investigating accidents.
- The directors (with consultations from competent outside assistance) are responsible for investigating work-related causes of sickness absences.
- The directors (with consolation from competent outside assistance are responsible for acting on investigation findings to prevent a recurrence.
Emergency procedures - fire and evacuation:
- The directors (with consolation from competent outside assistance) are responsible for ensuring the fire risk assessment is under taken and implemented.
- Escape routes are checked by the directors (with consultation from competent outside assistance) every six months or when appropriate.
- Fire extinguishers are maintained and checked by the directors (with the consultation from competent outside assistance) every six months or as appropriate.
- Alarms are tested by the directors (with consultation from competent outside assistance) every six months or as appropriate.
- Emergency evacuation will be tested every month.
